Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, dated September 19: — Butter: Finest, 184s; unsalted, 180s; other finest, 181s to 184s. Market quiet at advance. Cheese: White and coloured, 935. Demand improving. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received tho following cablegram from their London house, dated September 19: —Butter: New Zealand, finest salted, 176s to 180s. Danish, 192s to 1945. Cheese: Unchanged, quiet. MARKET REPORTS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. There was a considerable decline at the Auckland City Markets yesterday in the keen demand which has existed for some weeks for all varieties of apples. Delicious were much easier in values. Pears also showed a decrease in price. There was a good demand for oranges and bananas at increased rates. The values for the other lines remained about the same. A fair demand existed in the field produco section for heavy supplies of cabbage, cauliflower and swedes. Large quantities of all root vegetables were also available. , There were no outstanding changes in the prices, which showed a firming tendency. CANTERBURY MARKETS. POTATO PRICES FLUCTUATE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The potato market continues to fluctuate. Early in the week the price for September deliveries was up to £7 17s 6d. It receded to £7 ss, but on Wednesday night had risen to £B. To-day it is back to £7 10s. October deliveries moved in sympathy, but not to the same extent. They had reached £9, thero being a sale or two over that figure, and to-day they are quoted at £8 15s. The stocks going North are small, the Waipiata taking only 400 bags from Lyttelton, in addition to 1200 from Timaru. Tho Wingatui sails about next Thursday, and so far she will bo the final boat this month. There was an expectation of an inquiry from Otago to replace potatoes sold to Auckland during tho period of high prices, but so far it has not materialised. Inquiry from coastal districts in tho North Island is also restricted. No other line of produce is attracting much interest except wheat, consequent oil tho wheat pool's decision to export a quantity of the surplus. 'lho pool price is 6s 5d f.o.b. for luscan. A grade Gar ton oats are quoted at 3s 9d to 3s lOd, and B grade at 3s Bd, but the market is quiet. . , Seeds are being distributed in farmers lota, and tho prices are unchanged. The market for peas shows no improvement, Homo inquiry being a » s ° nt - - L^ l ° nominal Viiluo is 5s to 5s 2d f.O.b.j S.l#j or about 4s 4d on Chaff is worth £6 lOs a ton f.0.b., s.i.

SALE OF DAIRY COWS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports:—we held a very successful Bale of dairy cows and heifers ou account, of Mr. E. Shepherd, at. Hampton Park. East Tamaki. yeßterday. There was a large attendance, many buyers from North Auckland and Waikato being present. Tho quality offered was excellent, and good prices resulted. The pedigree Jersey heifer Tecoma Olive realised 85 guineas, and was purchased by Mr. A. .b. Watkin, Tnkanini. The same purchaser socured Tecoma Ukolelo for 35 guineas. Tecoma Maude was purchased by Mr. O. V. Adlam, Manurcwa, for 32 ,R<"neas Pleasure's Bell was bought by Mr. \\. Korish, Tuakau, for 18} guineas, and the same purchaser secured Lady of Presitage for 15 guineas. Best grade Jersey heifers made £l7 to £25 10s; best, grado Jersey heifers (calved), £l2 toi £l6 10s; cows made £9 to £l6 IBs; backward sorts, £8 to £l2 10s, according to Quality.
