WEEK-END WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to ns by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— The general outlook indicates unsettled weather prevailing, with heavy showers, particularly in western and southern districts, but fair intervals should intervene. Expect cold temperatures and wintry conditions, with hail and thunder in places near the west coast, and snow on the southern highlands. Westerly to southwesterly winds, rnoderato to strong, squally at times. Rough seas on the west coast, chiefly smooth to rnoderato elsewhere. Tho westerly typo of weather continues, barometric pressure being low in the south, and relatively high in tho north. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.051n. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 30.15 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —An anti-cyclone is moving on to southern New Zealand. A cyclone has developed in Bass Strait. There arc indications also of a slight cyclono east of Napier. Indications are for moderate to strong •winds from between south-west and south-east. Sons rough south of East Capo and about Cook Strait, otherwise rnoderato. Light to modorate south-west to south-east winds and smooth to moderate soas in tho eastern Tasman. Weather dull and unsettled in eastern districts, with rain, but improving later from Cook Strait southwards; mainly fair to fine in western districts.
