RACING ON HARBOUR.
CREWS FROM VESSELS* \
KEEN RIVALRY DISPLAYED.
Keen interest was taken in a boat rac» held on the harbour yesterday between the firemen of the Federal Line steamer Northumberland and the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Hororata.' The course' was from Sheerlegs Wharf," Devonport, to the Central Wharf, a distance of about one mile. The race wa# won by the firemen of tho Hororata by about four lengths, the time being 18m 555. '
Another race was held in which the officers of the Northumberland beat the. cadets over a course of just under a mile,; from the Stanley Bay Wharf to the Central Wharf. The time was 13m, and the officers won by about a third of a boat's length. In the evening there was a large attendance at the Tepid Baths, where swimming races-were held between' the cadets of the two vessels. Tho three events, a relay race, a sprint and .an under-wat«r race, were won by the cadets of the Northumberland. The relay race was won by a length of the baths. V -
