MOTHERS' EXHIBITION DAY.
A Mothers' Exhibition Day, held in conjunction with tho Belmont-Bayswater League of Mothers, was opened in St. Michael's Parish Hall at Belmont yesterday by the Mayoress of Takapuna, Mrs. J. W. Williamson. The exhibits were judged by Mrs. Brown in the needlework section, Mrs. Hopkins, in the flowers, and Miss Brown in the cookery sections. Tho following were in charge of the stalls: —Needlework, Mrs. Codd fid Mrs. Dickson; afternoon tc-a, Mrs. Sharpe, Mrs. Eckersley, Mrs. Naylor and Mrs. Campbell; sweets, Mrs. Lennan; flowers, Mrs. Day. A cooking demonstration was given by Mrs. Hay who was assisted .by Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. Brumley.
In the open classes, tho following wore awarded prizes:—Sewing section : Best hand-knitted article, Mrs. Sullivan, 1; Mrs. Bramley, 2; Mrs. Bramley, 3; best hand-embroidered article, Mrs. D. Stephens, 1; Miss 0. Piatt, 2. Flower section: Best collection of bulbs, Mrs. Day, 1; Mrs. Budgeon, 2; cut flowers, Mrs. Day, 1; Mrs. Codd, 2; Mrs. Wlntling, 3. Cooking section: Best plate of gems, Mrs. 'Stuart, 1; best sponge cake, Mrs. Eckersley, 1; best jam sandwich, Mrs. Robinson, 1; best variety of home made sweets, Mrs. Trenwitb. In the members classes, sewing section, the winners of tho most useful article made out of old garments or material wero Mrs. Codd, 1; Mrs. Budgeon, 2; best hand-embroidered article, Mrs. Lennan, 1; Mrs. Bramley, 2 and 3. Flower section: Best decorated table, Mrs. Newey. 1; Mrs. Jones, 2; best buttonhole, Reg. Jones, 1; Maurice Jones, 2; best lady's spray, Mrs. Day, 1. Special class: Best article made from a sugar bag, Mrs. Brady, 1; twelve heaviest hen eggs, Mrs. Day, 1 , „ , In tho evening a children's fancy dress party was held at tho hall at which tho costumes were judged by Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell and Miss Arey. Chocolates and balloons wero distributed to the children who took part in the Sleeping Beauty pantomime which was held last month. The music for tho evening was played by Mrs. Young. Supper was served by the ladies committee, who included Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Codd, Mrs. Day, Mrs. Dickson, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Newey, Mrs. Sharpe, Mis. Seagar, Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Naylor.
