VICE-REGAL BALL.
Another delightful ball was given at Government House, Wellington, on Tuesday night by Their * Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Alice Forgusson, at which a number of debutantes wore presented. Although there was a large attendance there was plenty of room for dancing to bo enjoyed thoroughly, and •there was a very cheerful spirit of pleasure abroad. The ballroom was adorned with beautiful groups of flowers, scarlet lilios and salvias forming 0110 group, delicate mauves and pinks of schizanthus another, cyclamon In many tones a third,, while there were also handsomo palms and pot plants used effectively. The loggia was arranged draw-ing-room fashion, and looked charming with electric heaters, flowers and palms, with many comfortable chairs and sofas. The drawing-rooms were arranged mostly with bowls of spring flowers and pink and white camellias, while large vases of violets made thoir fragrance known. The conservatory was in great beauty, with mostly pink, mauve aud crearn coloured flowers, and groups of handsome plants. This was also arranged for sitting-out. The supper was set in tho dining-room and lounge, the formor having been decorated with largo bowls of beautiful jonquils and daffodils, with the addition of the golden candelabra, tho candles of which wero shaded with yellow. Camellias were used in tho other room.
The presentations were made beforo the dance began, and then the girls, and those who presented them, came into the ballroom, where the aides-de-camp and others looked after the debutantes, ensuring that they had a very enjoyable presentation ball. Lady Alice Fergusson wore a gown of pale pink moire antique, the skirt made with full flares and cdored with a narrow hem of silver tissue. The corsage of pink georgette to tone was encrusted with sdver and diamante embroidery. Sho wore a diamond necklace and ornaments. Tho house party consisted of Mrs. Baird, who v/ore black with panels of black and gold brocade and diamond ornamonts; Countess Thelma Metaxa, who wore powder blue georgette with silver embroidery onbodico and nips; Miss Bond (Southland), in pale maize coloured chenille spotted net made full and pointed with a satin belt; Miss Williams (Dunodin), who wore black satin with jet ornaments.
