COAL SHARES SELL FREELY.

Sales on the Auckland Stoqk Exchange yesterday took a wide range. There was particular activity in coal shares. In local body debentures Mount Albert Boroughs, 1963, £5 14s per cent., changed hands at £lO3 15s, 5s cheaper the last sale. Now Zealand Breweries debentures had sale, at 30s 9d, compared with latest sales ranging from that figuro to 31s. More wore wanted at 30s 7d, sellers 30s lid.

In banks Nationals o! New Zealand changed hands at £6 17s, compared with late sales at that figure and at £6 18s. Tho D preference issue of Now Zealands sold for the first time in a little over two months at 28s 9d, an advance of '6d. Offers for the ordinary issue ' were advanced 4d to 62s lOd, sellers declining 3d to 635. Tho section generally was slightly easier. Insurances were very quiet, tho only shares sought boing New Zealands at 47s 6d, sellers 48s.

There was again remarkable interest irt coal shares, every one listed on tho Exchange having firm inquiry. Grey Valleys made two sales Id easier at 29s 4d, and Pukemiros were done twice at tho current rate, 76s 6d. The new 2s 6d preference issue of Renowns, fully paid, sold at 2s 9d. There was further inquiry at par, sellers 2s lOd. Westports changed hands twice at 34s 3d, 6d under tho level of tho latest sale. In gas Aucklands fully maintained their strength. In shipping Devonport. Steams, which recently recovered by selling Is dearer at 225, had inquiry at 21s 9d,-6d dearer than on Wednesday, ■ sellers remaining at 22s 6d. In breweries Staples had sale at 54s 6d, coroipared with latest transactions at that figure, and at 54s 2d. In the miscellaneous section Farmers' Tradings were done Id easier at 9s 4d. More were offered at 9s sd, buyers 9s 2d. Robinson's Ice Creams were done 6d dearer at 24s 6d and Wilsons Cements changed hands 3d easier at 445, although the shares closed firmer than on the previous day. In mining a late sale on Wednesday of Ohinemuri6, preference, was recorded at 10s, an advance of 6d. Mount Lyells made two further sales at 455.
