THE VETERANS' HOME.
GOVERNMENT HELP NEEDED.
DRAIN ON PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
Feeling that it should vnot be called upon to meat the whole .of the annual deficiencies in the accounts of the Veterans' Home, the executive of the Auckland Patriotic Association decided yesterday to ask the Government again for special assistance, \ "Last year," stated the Veterans' Home committee in its quarterly report, "there was a deficiency in the home account of £228. For the current year, ending March 31, 1930, this amount will be substantially exceeded, owing to the replacement of a considerable quantity of essential equipment in the home. These deficiencies for several years past have not been subject to any Government subsidy, but it is felt that the time has now come when the matter should be again represented to the Government, stressing the fact that this is a Dominion institution, not a local one; .otherwiso the amount must become, as authorised by law. a charge upon the funds of this association, which it is desirable to avoid, if possible. Such funds can be used to the fullest amount available for other pressing needs."
The committee stated that there were 27 men in the home, including nine who t had served in the Great, War., The recently-appointed superintendent, Major J. A. A. Wallingfosrd, had made a number of improvements, and the was being most efficiently managed. The committee recommended that a new hot water system be installed. The report was adopted, and it was resolved that a letter be sent to Major aud Mrs. Wallingford, expressing appreciation of what they had done for this comfort of the veterans.
