PAYMENT FOR BUTTER-FAT.

HAMILTON, Wednesday,

Tho New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, has decided to advance to its shareholders Is 6d per lb. butterfat for first-grade cream and mill: supplied during August for butter and cheesemaking respectively. A premium of 2£d per lb. will be paid for milk supplied for casein manufacture and the usual premium for supplies for milk powder.

TOKOROA CHEESE FACTORY

GOOD YEAR FOR SUPPLIERS,

The tenth annual report and balancesheet of the Tokoroa Co.-operativo Dairy Company gives proof that puinico country when proporly handled can be successfully farmed. During the factory's first season, 10 years ago, the modest total of 47 tons of cheese was manufactured. Hie ouput for the season ended on July 31, 1929, totalled 295 tons. The advance payment to tho factory's 25 suppliers was Is 6.71 d per II) butter-fat and a final payment of per lb is to bo made. In addressing suppliers at the annual meeting tho chairman of directors, Mr. J. Morsop, said the season's success, apart from the increase in tho milk supply to' the factory, was duo to the fact that the directors had been able to effect two good sales, covering the whole of the season s output, August-November at per lb, and December-June at 9d per lb. Another pleasing feature of the year's work was tho decreaso in the cost of manufacture, which now stood at 4.616 d per lb of cheese, as against 4.93 d tho previous season. The company's indebtedness to the bank had not seriously increased and now stood at £lOls. The assets of tho company were £7980 10s lid. Standardisation of cheese would bo considered by the directors at an early date.

OPOTIKI ASSOCIATION.

MARKED PRODUCTION INCREASE

The thirty-third annual report of tho Opotiki Dairy Association, Limited, to be presented at the meeting of shareholders to-day, states that owing to fairly good weather conditions throughout the season there was a marked increase in production. The output of butter totalled 1500 tons, compared with 1313 tons in the preceding year, an increase of 14j per cent. The quality of tho finished product had been well maintained. Tho past season was one of the most difficult owing to tho fluctuations of prices on the London market. Notwithstanding this, tho prices realised for the whole year wcro better than in the preceding year, although in this respect the local market had been disappointing. .The directors viewed with satisfaction and grateful appreciation tho continued efficient and untiring efforts of the Auckland agents, Messrs. C. Aickin and Sons (Auckland), Limited, -who. in tho face of the keenest and*most difficult competition, showed a steady increase in turnover each year. Tho report adds that suppliers have already recoived Is 6d per lb. foi the period from August 1 to May 31. and Is 8d for Juno and July. After making provision for depreciation, tho balance available for distribution amounts to £12.308 7s sd, from which tho directors recommend tho payment of a dividend of 6 per cent, on all fully paid-up capital at July 31, 1928, absorbing £9OO, a further payment of Id per lb. on all butter-fat, absorbing £11.336 18s 6d, leaving a balance of £7l 8s lid to be carried forward. This will bring tho payments on butter-fat for the whole season up to Is 7d for the period from August 1 to May 31 and Is 9d for Juno and July.
