GATHERING IN AUCKLAND.

PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS.

Arrangements aro now well in hand for the conference of the Associated Chambers of Commcrco, which is to be hold in Auckland on October 14 and 15, for the socond timo since tho formation of tho association. Tho conference will bo presided over by Mr. C. 1?. Agar, of Christchurch, who is vicc-prcsidcnt of tho association. The association lost through death its president, the lato Mr. 11. P. Caugliey, within a month of his assuming office. Several important addresses are to bo delivered at the conference, tho speakers including Mr. L, A. Paish, tho newlyappointed British trade commissioner in New Zoaland, and Dr. E. Marsden, permanent head of tho Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Arrangements aro being made by a special committee of tho Auckland chamber for the entertainment of the visiting delegates,, 50 or 60 of whom, some of them accompanied by their wives, are expected to arrive hero on tho morning of Saturday, October 12. The tentative programme outlined by the local cominittco provides for a harbour excursion on Saturday, followed by a theatre party the same evening. There will be a motor run on Sunday afternoon, and on Monday evening the party will be the guests of tho Auckland chamber at a banquet. Tho delegates will again bo entertained by tho local chamber at its monthly luncheon on Tuesday.

Numerous remits have been sent in by the various affiliated bodies. The wide range of subjects touched on includes taxation, State trading, misleading prospectuses, judicial procedure, trade relations with other countries, main highways and many other matters. Questions affecting the constitution of the associated chambers are expected to occupy a considerable proportion of the timo of the conference.
