THREE MEN IN HOTEL.
POLICE SERGEANT'S VISIT.
FAILURE OF PROSECUTION.

PUKEKOHE, Wednesday
A charge of being found on licensed premises after hours without! lawful excuse was preferred against three men, James McCormick, W. R. Pellow and W. A. T. Lovett, in the Pukekohe Police Court to day. Sergeant Cowan said that shortly after 9 p.m. on July 27, ho found the three defendants in the Patuinahoo Hotel. They were in a room adjoining the bar, with the licensee. McCormick and Pellow explained that they were talking business with the licensee about buying calves. Lovett had no excuse except that ho had come out from Pukekoho with the others for a ride.
Adolphus Parris, tho licensee, said ho knew McCormick was engaged buying bobby calves and he- (Parris) wished to buy some calves, as ho had a farm of 500 acres. McCormick called on him on tho evening in question bringing Pellow, who had for sale calve 3of tho kind which witness wished to obtain. They brought with them Lovett. Ho invited them into tho office, where tho business was discussed. They wero discussing tho matter when tho sergeant arrived. The slido competing with the bar was locked and no liquor had been served. Tho charges were dismissed, tho magistrate commenting that apparently McCormick and Pellow were legitimately on the premises but Lovett had been running a risk.
