BLASTING FATALITY.
ROAD WORKS ACCIDENT.
STRUCK BY FALLING ROCK.
MARRIED MAN KILLED.

GISBORNE. Tuesday
Advice was received this afternoon of a fatality 011 the Waioeka Road beyond Matawai, where a gang of men is engaged in Opening up a new section of highway. The victim of the fatality was Mr. William Arthur Eves, whose home was at Ormond Road, Gisbornc. Mr. Eves was a married man with two sons.
Tho fatality apparently occurred quite gimply. The charge of gelignite used in ono blast exerted an effect considerably more powerful than was expected. The men engaged in the operation had taken cover at what they believed to be a reasonable distance, but tho flying rock thrown up by the explosion reached to tho spot where Mr. Eves had crouched, one heavy rock striking him on the head and inflicting injuries from which he died within a few minutes.
The body will be taken to Gisborne.
