FIGURES FOR THE CITIES
DUNEDIN HEADS THE LIST.

Dunedin enjoys tho unenviablo distinction of providing tho largest number of chimney fires in tho Dominion, according to a report submitted to tho Fire Board at its meeting to-day by Superintendent Salmon.
In tho report, which covers 50 fire board districts, it was shown that for tho year ended March 31 last there had been 354 chimney fires, and Dunedin easily headed the list with n total of 124. Wellington came next with 65, then Auckland with 21, and Christchurch with 15. Surprise was expressed at theso figures, and it was decided that tho instituting of more frequent prosecutions in tho caso of chimney fires should bo left to tho discretion of tho brigade superintendent.
