IMMUNITY FROM FIRE.
YOUNG CHEMIST'S INVENTION LIVERPOOL TESTS OF PROCESS. Australian and N./5. Press Association. (IJcceivcd August 19. 11.55 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 18. A group of industrial magnates in the strong-room of a, Liverpool office witnessed secret tests of a remarkable method of rendering fabrics fire-proof and water-proof. The articles rendered immune, says the Daily Express, included canvas, cotton, wood, paint and silk. The fabric of an aeroplane was drenched in petrol and set alight. It was not harmed. Some phosphorus was squirted upon fabrics and burned for several minutes without result, The pattern on a carpet was not affected when a blow-pipo was used. Oiilv the surfaco was slightly charred.
Tho inventor of the process is a Liverpool chemist, Mr. John S. Hood, aged 24. Manufacturers of all types are offering large sums for the use of the process on licence.
