CONTESTS IN TWO WARDS.

Considerable interest is evinced in the election of thret members of the Dairy Board, as representatives of producers in Wards 5, 6 and 9, nominations for which closed at noon to-day. The retiring members arc Messrs. J. R. Corrigan, W. A. lorns (chairman of the board), and T. M. Tympany, representatives of Wards 5, 6 and 9 respectively, who retired by rotation and were eligible for nomination and re-election.

The wards embrace the. following counties:—Ward No. 5: Waimatc West, Hawcra, Patea, Waitolara, Waimafino, Wanganui, Rangitikei, Kiwitea, Pohangina, Oroua and Kairanga. .Ward No. 6: Matakaoa, Waiapu, Uawa, Waikohu, Cook, Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, Waipawa, Waipukurau, Patangata, Dannevirke, Wcbcr, Woodville, Pahiatua, Akitio, Eketahuna, Mauriceville. Castlepoint, Masterton, Wairarapa South, Fcathcrston, Hutt, Makara, Horowlienua and Manawatu. Ward No. 9: Southland, Stewart Island, Wallace, Fiord, Lake.

The nominations received by the returning officer, Mr. W. C. Robinson, of the Department of Agriculture, aro as follows:—Ward 5, Mr. J. R. Corrigan; ward 6, Mr. W. A. lorns, of Martinborough, and Mr. Philip Davics, of Hamuaj ward 9, Mr. T. M. Tympany, of Woodlands, and Mr. John Dunlop, of Seaward Downs. It will be seen that Mr. Corrigan is unopposed, but keen contests are anticipated in respect of the other wards. The election will close at noon on September 13, and will be by a system of postal voting. The electoral rolls of producers (defined by tlio Dairy Produce Export Control Act, 1923, as suppliers of milk and cream to factories manufacturing dairy produce for export) have been completed. It is understood there aro about 8000 names on the roll for ward 6.
