MATCHES IN TOURNAMENT,

AUCKLAND'S FOOTBALL WIN.

RETENTION OF TROPHY SURE

In ils annual tournament with the Wellington Training College, (lie Auckland College is sure of retaining tho Millies Memorial Howl, the tournament trophy. Auckland has scored 13 points for the trophy, as against 3 scorod by Wellington, and swimming contests to ho hold to-day can confer only two points on the winner.

Hockey, basketball and football matches were played yesterday. Tho ladies' hockey match was drawn, and Auckland won the men's hockey match, and tho basketball and football matches. Swimming will be held at the -Tepid Baths this morning and a meeting of the combined executive committees will take place in tho afternoon. Tho visitors will leave for Wellington this evening.

Tho men's hockey match was fast and open, tho scoro of three goals to one fairly indicating the run of play. Goals wcro scored for Auckland by W. S. Bestie, J. L. Clarkson and IC. D. Henderson, and for Wellington by J. Paul. Tho Auckland ladies were faced with a more difficult proposition, although they wcro unlucky not to win, instead of drawing, one all. Tho local forwards were particularly good, but brilliant work by the Wellington backs, especially tho goalio, saved tho visitors on more than ono occasion. Miss N. Lovegrovo scored for Wellington and Miss H. Hayes for Auckland. Mr. A. Ilivors refereed both matches. Auckland won tho basketball match by tho narrow margin of 17—16. Play was disappointing in tho opening stages, tho passing being bad. Auckland sot tho paco in tho second half, their passing in attack showing much improvement. Miss .J. Adams was referee.

Playing an open game, Auckland convincingly defeated Wellington by 31 to 0 in tho football match played at tho Domain in tho afternoon. The local backs and forwards wcro at tho top of their form and throw the ball about freely, some fine passing rushes being seen. Tries were scored for Auckland by Conolly (four), Abbott (two) and Mackio, while Abott converted threo tries and Laurie and Mackio one each. Mr. C. F. Paul refereed.
