REFLOATING THE PAROTO.

THIS AFTERNOON'S ATTEMPT.

If ;he weather conditions are favourable an attempt will be made this afternoon to refloat, the Northern Company's auxiliary schooner Paroto, which lias been stranded on White Island since last Wednesday night. Temporary repairs to the vessel s hull were completed yesterday, and heavy salvage anchors have been laid out intn deep water to heave the vessel off the beach. The launching operations will also be assisted by the company's steamer Apanui. The powerful salvage pump, which was despatched from Auckland by the Tuhoc, was transhipped to the Apanui at Mercury Pay yesterday. The pump is driven by an oil engine and will be fitted up on hoard the Paroto after she has been refloated. Tf the salvage operations to-dav are successful, the Apanui will take the Paroto in tow as soon as possible, and the two vessels are expected to reach Auckland ori Friday morning.
