AFTERNOON GATHERING.

The members of the Auckland women's branch of the New Zealand Labour Party and their friends met on Monday afternoon at the Farmers' tearooms for the purpose of welcoming the Rev. Mrs. Constable, the co-niinister of the Unitarian Church, and farcwelling Mis. J. Devanny, New Zealand authoress, prior to her departure for Australia and England. Mis. Harrison, president of the liraneh, extended tc Mrs. Constable a heaitj welcome and wished Mrs. Devanny every success in her new fields of activity. .Otliei speakers were Mrs. E. Gibson and Mr. Gavin Stone., both expressing regret at the departure for overseas of Mrs. Devanny. Both guests replied to the speeches. Afternoon tea was served and the gatherinc ended with personal expressions ot goodwill and hopes for a speedy reunion Among the guests was Mrs. 1. l«iasei, of Wellington a member of the Eugenics Board, who is visiting Auckland m connection with matters concerning the Mental Defectives Act.
