[BV TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
PAPAKURA. Monday
A request to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. Ransom, that the Highways Board should contribute lbward the interest and sinking fund on the loans raised for putting down the Great South Road in concrete from Auckland to Papakura, is to be made by the local bodies concerned. At a meeting of the Papakura Town Board this evening it was explained -that this decision had been arrived at on Saturday at a conference at Manurewa between the representatives of the local bodies and Messrs. A. W. Hall, M.P. for Ilauraki, and J. N. Massev, M.P, for Franklin. 111 moving that the Papakura Board should forward to the Minister a resolution embodying the request, the Rev. W. C. Wood pointed out that the Highways Board had contributed less than 40 percent. of the cost of tiie work, claiming that a bitumen road was all that was required. However, the Highways Hoard was now offering the Franklin County Council £3 for .til on the cost of continuing the concrete, and it was felt that the local bodies which had already concreted their portions were entitled to consideration.
