MAN VIOLENT IN COURT.
STRUGGLE WITH CONSTABLES
PROTEST AGAINST SENTENCE,
Struggling violently as he was removed from the dock by two constables, Peter Bradley, aged 57, miner, who was convicted in the Police Court yesterday on charges of being drunk in Princes Street and of assaulting Constablo Miller, shouted and fought a3 soon as sentence of two months' imprisonment was passed. Constable Miller said that on Saturday afternoon he was called to Dr. ,E. B. Gunson's homo in Princes Street, where ho found accused drunk on • tho. front verandah. Accused was knocking on the door and had frightened the women of the household. After arresting accused witness searched him at the city watchhouse, where accused punched him on tho mouth and kicked violently. Accused ' vehemently declared that he was innocent, and began to open his shirt to show bruises proving that ho had been roughly handled by tho police. " Gaol is tho only place for accused," said the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, lie added , that accused had been before tho Court many times previously, while he had also been on Roto Roa Island, where ho had caused a great deal of trouble. Ho was costing the country £2 a week in charitable aid. When sentence of two months' imprisonment was passed accused commenced to shout at the magistrate. He was forcibly removed from the Court to tho prisoners' room by two constables.
