A i lea of nr"«i guiitv was entered by Robert Forbes R.iverty, aged 22, and Irene Campbell Pryre. a ?ed 17. who were found by the police a !Vw weeks ago living in a sort of (lii!;ou! in a maize paddock a mile from the pubflc road, and who were jointly charged at Hastings today with breaking and enterics a store and stealing therefrom goods to U l ie value of £l9 In addition, the male iufctised was charged with othei thefts nntfl with forging the name of 0 S Buckley to cheques for £2O. £lfi and £l4 respectively. A varied and large assortment of goods albged to have been stolen made an un usual spoclacle in the nmrtrooni Both accused were committed to the Supreme Court for trial.

Constable Alsop stated in evidence that when accused were found in the dugout I'ryce .made a statement that on July It accused came to where she was employed as a domestic at Waioliiki and said the police were looking for him. She concealed him ui a loft for two flays and at night he slept in a room next to liers, which was detached from the house. Prvce thought her parents suspected some thing, so she left, but returned to her homo on July 22. Later sho went with Raverty to the dugout and was dressed in some clotlios of her brother She ad mitted breaking into tho store with Itav crtv and stealing clothes, chocolates, shoes and groceries. Detective Farquharson saitl that Raverty had frankly confessed to tho charge of breaking and entering in company with Pryco and also to the other theft charges preferred. Raverty had also admitted taking several blank cheques from Buckley's cheque book when he (accused) was employed at the station managed by Buckley. 110 said he filled them in and cashed them.
