FRANKLIN COUNTY ROADS.
AWHITU RIDING LOAN.
FORMATION AND SURFACING.

The Franklin County Council met today, the chairman, Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., presiding. It wa3 decided to proceed with the preliminaries for raising a loan for shelling certain roads in Awhitu Riding, in accordance with a request from the Awhitu Ratepayers' Association. It was also decided to ask the Auckland Harbour Board to reserve the Waipipi shellbank, in tho Manukau Harbour, for tho council's requirements.
A deputation from Tuakau urged the council to proceed with tho legalisation of tho proposed new road from Whangarata to Pokeno, along tho old railway line. The council appointed a sub-committeo to inquire into the matter and report. An estimate of £1357 was submitted by tho county engineer, Mr. J. F. McArthur, as the cost of metalling RuncimanArarimu Road, Donelly's Road, and Davis Road, Maketu. The amount included the necessary formation. It was decided to refer the estimate to the settlers, who are considering raising a special loan for the work. An estimate of £1122 10s as the cost of shelling Boundary Road, Waipipi, from the Awhitu-Waiuku main road to tho foot of tho hills, including tho necessary formation, was referred to Messrs. C. Dickey and M. Aldred, tho riding members concerned, to confer with ratepayers interested.
