MOTOR LORRY OUT OF HAND

BOY AND OLD MAN KILLED.

FOUR OTHER PEOPLE HURT.

Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received August. 12, 12.45 a.m.) SYDNEY. Aug. il. Tragic results attended an accident at Newtown to-day.

A motor-lorry, which was travelling at a high rate of speed in King Street, got out of hand, mounted a footpath, and killed a hoy and an old man, and injured a little girl.

Continuing its course, the lorry smashed tho plate-glass windows in several small shops. At the end of 40yds. its destructive career was stopped against a newsagent's window. The driver and two men who were with him wore seriously injured. The names of the two killed arc Michael Scully, aged 60, of St. I'eters, and Robert Haddow, aged 10, of Newtown.

Those injured arc Edna Johnston, aged four, severe head injuries; Percy Spittlehouse, lorry driver, of St. Peters, fractured skull; John Parker and Henry Ludwell, of Newtown, head injuries.

The tragedy was enacted within a few moments. Jhe people in the street had hardly grasped what was happening before the incident had ended.

The police seized some beer bottles found in the lorry. Several broken bottles were scattered on tho pavement.
