BRAVERY OF NUNS.
CHILDREN SAVED FROM FIRE. SISTER'S LIFE SACRIFICED. Australian and N.Z. I'ress Association. •> LONDON. Aug. 9. Early this morning *a fird* broke out in St. Patrick's Convent at Hayling Island, near Portsmouth, in which there are 53 London slum children. The nuns showed wondciful bravery, and rescued them all unscathed. In a desperate effort to save the Sacrament from the flames, Sister Celestine, the acting Reverend Mother, was burned to (lentil. A few minutes before she was trapped by the flames Sister Celestine had aided the six other nuns to rescue the children. Sister Celestine had devoted her life to caring for poor children. When all the children were safely out she returned through the flames to save the Sacrament, but was overcome by fumes and badly burned. She collapsed at the chapel door, where the firemen found her dead. Her sacrifice was in vain, as the (lames did not reach the chapel.
