HOUSES WASHED AWAY. Australian find N.Z. Press Association. (Received August 12, 12.5 a.m.) TOKIO, Aug. 11. The Shinano River at Niiagata about 160 miles north-west of Tokio is in flood. A severe deluge of rain fell and this caused landslides. The railway services have been interrupted. One train was overturned. Hundreds of houses were washed away and many deaths from drowning are reported.
