IMPERIAL BUREAUX SCHEME. DOMINION TO PARTICIPATE. [Jji TELEGRAPH.* —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ■WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Hon. H. Atmore, Minister in Charge of the Scientific and Industrial Research Department, announced to-day that the Government had decided to participate in tho scheme of the Imperial Agricultural Research Bureaux, the establishment. of which was one of the recommendations made by the Imperial Agricultural Research Conference in 1927, which recommended tho establishment of three bureaux and ftvo correspondence centres as follows: — Bureaux. —Soil science, animal nutrition. animal health.

Correspondence Centres. Animal geneties, agricultural parasitology, plant genoties, fruit production and economic botany. The conference, said the Minister, was no doubt prompted to take this action in view of the success attending the two bureaux of entomology and mycology which had already been established, and which were rendering conspicuous servico to workers in these phases of science throughout the Empire. In order to put the bureaux on a proper basis a preliminary financial supervisory body was constituted, representative of all participating Dominions and Crown Colonies. New Zealand was represented on tiiis body by Mr. Alexander Crabb, of the High Commissioner's Office, and Mr. Ncvill L. Wright, liaison officer of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. It was estimated that tlio annual cost of the bureaux would reach u total of £20,000, and the contributions of the United Kingdom, Dominions and Crown Colonies were assessed, New Zealand's annual contribution being fixed for £1250.

It was important to realise, said, the Minister, that these bureaux in themselves will not undertake any specific research work, but will servo as collecting, distributing, publishing anil co-ordinating bodies. BOARD OP AGRICULTURE. WORK AT LINCOLN COLLEGE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Board of Agriculture met in Wellington this week, Mr. W. Perry, who lias been appointed president in place of the lato Sir James Wilson, presiding. Tlio Minister of Agriculture, Hon. G. W. Forbes, was present at tlio opening of the mcoting, and briclly addressed the board, lie voiced tho regret felt by the entire agricultural community at the loss of the late president, Sir James Wilson, whose services so freely given on the board and elsewhere in tho interests of agriculture had been highly valued by tho Government.

The board had a lengthy discussion over matters connected with agricultural education, particularly with regard to Lincoln College, and 'some development proposals which have been put lorwaid by the board of governors to the Minister, ami which had been referred to tho board for its consideration. Representatives ot the Lincoln College Board of Governors met tho board and discussed collego matters with them at length, after which the board considered the whole matter anil prepared a statement of its conclusions lor submission to I lie Minister. Ihe discussion covered both educational and research work. Appreciation was expressed of tho work now being done at the college. Another matter which received full consideration was that of training boys to fit, them for farming occupations, and after considerable discussion on various aspects of it this was referred to a sub-committee for a report. Details of proposed legislation in connection with the dehorning of cattle were approved by the board.
