COLLEGE TOURNAMENT.

CONTESTS BY TEACHERS.

AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON

PROGRAMME BEGINS TO-DAY. The v annual tournament between the Auckland and Wellington Training Colleges -will lie held in Auckland for three days, commencing to-day. About 70 Wellington students arrived in .Auckland yeste'rday. In the afternoon (lie party assembled at the Training College at Epsom and, following afternoon tea, the visitors were, driven to points of interest in the city. In the evening several students attended service in St. David's Presbyterian Church.

Sport, athletics and debating are included in the programme. Contests will be lipid in tennis, football, basketball, athletics, swimming, boxing, hockey and debating. The winner in each branch of sport obtains two points toward the total number for the tournament trophy, tho Milnes Memorial Buwl. Tho bowl is now held by Auckland, who wcro successful in the contests in Wellington last year. The winning team in the debating contest is awarded the Waghorn Vase, now held by Wellington. The .Auckland College has two points in hand for the bowl, having defeated Wellington at cricket during the Easter vacation. Tennis matches will commence on the courts near the Training College at 9 o'clock this morning. The teams each comprise eight players, four men and four women. There will be 16 matches in all, eight singles, four doubles and four combined doubles. Athletics will be held in the Domain this afternoon, there, being 10 events, including a relay race. Boxing contests will be staged in the Drill Hall this evening, and weights to be decided include heavy, middle, welter, light and feather. Following the. boxing, a debate between Wellington and .Auckland teams will be held in the University Collcgo Hull. The subject is " That tho Introduction of Modern Machinery Has Been Beneficial to Mankind." The debate will lie between teams of thire speakers each, Wellington taking the affirmative and Auckland the negative. Hockey matches, men's and women's will be held in the Rtmucra grounds tomorrow morning. The basketball match will be held at the University College early in the afternoon, to be followed by a football match in the Domain. In the evening the tournament ball will be held in the University College Hall.

On Wednesday morning the. swimming contests will be held in the Tepid Baths. In the afternoon a meeting of the combined executive committees will be held. The visitors will leave for Wellington in the evening.
