THE HARBOUR BRIDGE.

Sir, —"Greater Auckland" is good enough to point out thai the one placo for the bridge across upper harbour. west of Chelsea. This shows that either lie does not know the facts, or he is trying to be funny. Perhaps he thinks that the bridge would be still more useful, more beautiful and pay better, if it ran from Point Chevalier to Riverhead Mr. Mackenzie, former chairman of tho Harbour Board, ought to know as much about tho matter as "Greater Auckland." He said that, his board had no objection to the northern end of the bridge being at Northeote. The advantages of Northeote over Kauri Point are obvious to everybody, except, perhaps, "Greater Auckland." It seems necessary to inform him that tho overwhelming majority of those who know what they are talking about agree that, in every respect, the best route is irom 'Western Wharf to Northeote. He may calm his fears This route will not interfere with shipping, and will give the shortest and easiest road to the northern suburbs, and to the North generally, thereby attracting a maximum of traffic, and thus making the finance secure. "Greater Auckland" may sleep easy The Government, the City Council, the Town-planning Association, the Harbour Board, the Bridge Association, the councils of the four northern boroughs and of the suburbs, will all have a voice in the matter, and may be depended upon not to tolerate any detriment to the shipping, or any disfigurement of tho harbour. Geo. Large.
