EARTHQUAKE RELIEF.

BALL AT MANUREWA. A ball was held in tho Alfriston Hall recently in aid of tho Herald earthquake fund. Morrow's orchestra gave their services free for tno occasion, and their programme was greatly enjoyed, especially tho " Lancers," played by request. A short address and voto of thanks to the orchestra for their music was given by Mr. Chadwin, and it was announced that Mrs. R. Muir had collected an extra subscription list. Among those present were: Mrs. lialliwell, who woro navy bluo satin; Mrs. 11. Kimpton, crushed rose crepe de chine; Mrs. R. Muir, cinnamon crepe de chine; Mrs. Wight, violet armure; Mrs. Morrow, black silk laco and embroidered shawl; Mrs. L. Embling, magenta crepe de chine with gold laco and fringed skirt; Mrs. H. Embling, wine crepe do chino and gold lace; .Airs. 11. Duncan, sea green silk with jiink flowers appliqued ; Mrs. A. Davies, floral crcne do chine; Mrs. Blythe Smith, nigger silk and blue shawl; Mrs. Marx, black figured marocain; Mrs. F. Kimpton, cornflower crepe de chine with shaded accordion pleated trimming; Miss Dunn, flame silk with silver trimming; Miss M Wedding, jade silk with coffee lace; Miss Noble, mauve embroidered crepe de chine; Miss Clarice, kingfisher blue crepe de chino with diamante girdle; Miss Wight, wine velvet with tulle bow: Miss Ilalls, black velvet with turquoise silk, and silver lace; Miss Pallister, peach crepe de chino with' gold beading: Miss Kimpton. apple green crepe do chine and gold lace; Miss M. Clarice, plum velvet with silver trimming; Miss Fitzpatrick, white voile, blue silk hand embroidered; Miss Wyatt, blue velvet with diamante trimming. Supper was provided bv the ladies committee. Mr. S. E. Gregory was in charge of the floor arrangements.
