OUR FRENCH VISITORS.

AUCKLAND CLUB AT HOME. A largely attendee] and particularly enjoyablo At Home was held yesterday afternoon by the president apd members of the Auckland Club in honour of Captain Ahrial and officers of tho French cruiser Tourvillo. Upon arrival at the club the. guests were received in the vestibuio by tho vice-president, Mr. A. h. Warnock, in tho absenco of tho ["resident, Mr. P. Luckie, who was unablo to bo present, and Mrs. Warnock, who was wearing a frock of navy georgette with furs and a navy hat to match. With them was their (laughter, Dr. A mini Warnock, who was in , leaf green erepo do chine, and a green hat touched with fawn. Both ladies wero carrying bouquets of violets which had been presented to them upon arriving at the club.

From there the guests passed on into tho lounges, both upstairs and down, most of them, however, congregating in the dining room, which had been cleared for dancing. Brightly coloured flags draped against tho walls and clusters of tall palms around which wero grouped (lowering pot plants, made charming decorative effects 1.1 tho room, and tho latter were used profusely as well in the lounges. Delightful music was played for dancing. Upstairs in tho billiard room tea was served. Tho flowers in this room were most lovely and tho big tables were arranged with them in a delightful colour Scheme of yellow in all its varying shades, in purple and pale mauve. In the centre of each one of them was placed a largo wicker basket in tones of niauveblue, filled with loose clusters of wattle, yellow jonquils, and trumpet daffodils. Elsewhero on the tables were bowls of Iceland poppies, daffodils, low bowls of deep purple violets and higher ones ot delicately mauve irises.
