BUSINESS ON EXCHANGES. RETURNS ON INVESTMENTS. Following is a List of yesterday's transactionc on New Zealand Stock Exchanges. In the second column is given the return, based on the last dividend, from investment at the quoted price. DAIRY PRODUCE PRICES. LONDON MARKET VALUES. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received tho following cablegram from their London house, dated July 31: —Messrs. Samuel Pago and Son report: Butter —New Zealand, 109s to 1725. Cheese —New Zealand white, 86s to !375, coloured, 90s to 91s. i'lie market for butter ana cheese is very quiet. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited has received the following advice by cable from London, under date July 31 :—Butter, choicest salted, 171s to 172s per cwt.; cheese, white, 86s to 87s, coloured. 90s to 91s. A moderate amount of flax anci hemp was received into Auckland stores for grading during the month of July. At present millers are preparing for tho new season and tho product of the mills is of mixed quality. The returns for July are a little lower than for June, but compare more than favourably with tho figures for July, 1928, which were particularly low.

The figures for the month are as follows, thu returns for July, 1928, being given in parentheses:— Hemp.—Good fair, 160 (76); high fair, 400 (2C3) , low fair, 232 (140); common, 100 (72) . rejected, 25 (4). Total, 917 hales (495) Tow.—Xo 1, 102 hales (31); No. 2, 153 (79) ; Xo. 3, 73 (29) ; condemned, 12 (5). Total, 345 (144). There were no stripper slips passed through the stores in tiio month of July in eititer 1928 or 1929. KAURI GUM SUPPLIES. FIGURES FOR SEVEN MONTHS. A satisfactory amount of kauri gum. as usual of only moderate quality, was received into store by Auckland brokers during July. The total of 349 tons compares favourably with amounts for the earlier months of this year The quantities of gum received into store during the first seven months of the last three years are as follows:
