CEMETERY TRUST ROBBED.
FORMER SECRETARY CHARGED COMMITTAL FOR SENTENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN' CORRESPONDENT. ] TAIHAPE, Thursday. A plea of guilty was made by Albert Lcighton, a married man, of Taihape, in the Taihape Police Court today, to two charges of stealing money which was the property of the Taihape Cemetery trust. The charges were: (1) That on or about Juno 1, 1926, he stole £4 17s 6d, tho property of the Taihape Cemetery Trust, of which he was then a servant; (2) that on or about May 16, 1928, he stole £B, also the property of tho Taihape Cemetery Trust. Detective J. Walsh, of Wanganui, conducted tho police prosecution. He said Leighton was formerly secretary of the Cemetery Trust, and could not account for certain payments of rent made to him by a Taihape farmer, Mr. A. H. McGuiness, while accused was secretary of the trust. Leighton was committed to the Supreme Court at Wanganui for sentence on August 13. He was allowed bail on his own recognisance of £SO. and one surety of £SO.
