DRURY RIDING, RATE.
Sir.—l was amazed to learn that the Franklin County Council had'decided to strike a rate of l|d for* the Drury riding this year. This is putting the rate up to where it was before the new valuation last year, which benefited the riding revenue to the extent 'of some £9OO. The present councillor is stated to have promised "no increase and possibly a reduction." However, no record is given of any protest against the decision of the council. There being no excuse for tha increase, it is to be hoped the council will respect the urgent protest of the Ratepayers' Association and amend the resolution before confirming it. A DnpifY Ratepayer.
