WOOD-BLOCK PAVEMENTS.
NEGLECT IN WELLINGTON. The continued neglect of the wood blocked pavements of Wellington is likely to bo a costly thing for the city in a year or two, says tho Dominion. For some vears now the wood blocks have been left untarred, with the result that there is not much wearing surface left, hut water is allowed to get in between
the blocks and settle on the concrete foundation, so that for weeks after each rainstorm tho blocks rest in water instead of on dry concrete. Tho blocks
wero tho best pavement the city has over laid down, and it would bo wise tc pre serve them for as long as possible. Unfortunately since the war the attention given them has been intermittent, and of recent years noxt lo nothing at all. Evidence of this can bo seen any day on Jervois Quay and Customhouse Quay.
