PAPATOETOE APPOINTMENT.

FAREWELL TO REV. P. C. DAVIS,

The Rev. T. 11. C. Partridge, M.A., tutor and assistant chaplain at St. John's College, has been appointed to succeed tho Rev. P. C. Davis as vicar of Papatoetoe. Mr. Partridge will commence his new duties about tho beginning of October. Although born in Sydney, New South Wales, Mr. Partridge camo to Now Zealand as a boy and received part of his education at tho Stratford High School. He became a student of St. John s College, and while there graduated in 1915 at Auckland University College SLA. with honours in philosophy. Ho was ordained a deacon tho following year and a priest in 1317. From 1916 to 1918 he held tho position of curate at Morrinsvillo, and at tho same time secured the L.Th. diploma from the New Zealand Board of Theological Studies. Sir. Partridge left Morrinsvillo to take the appointment of homo missionary for tho Tamaki East district, and continued there until 1922, when ho returned to St. John's College as tutor. Throe years later Mr. Partridge became vicar of Ilelensville, rotiring last year to take up his present position at St. John's College.

In tho interval between the retirement of Mr. Davis and arrival of Sir. Partridge tho parish of Papatoetoo will be in charge of the Rev. R. L. Foullces, a retired clergyman, of Manurcwa. On Monday evening there was a very largo gathering in St. George's Church Hall, Papatoetoe, to farewell tho Rev. P. C. Davis, who has been vicar there for the past eight and a-lialf years. On behalf of tho parishioners Mr. F. H. Leonard presented Sir. Davis with a cheque, emphasising tho efliciencv with which he had organised the work of ihe parish and his valuable services as chaplain of tlm Orphan Homo. Bouquets wero presented to Sirs. Davis by a serior member of tho church and by the youngest member of the kindergarten, and from tho Girls' Biblo Class sho received a presentation. A most enjoyable musical programme, to which items wero contributed by tho orphanago girls, was given.
