The driver of the other car, Mr. H. Warner Farnell, escaped injury. The car driven by Mr. McCathie was proceeding along Epsom Avenue in the direction of Mount Eden, and the other car was going along Gillies Avenue toward Newmarket. Mr. McCathie's car was capsized and came to rest on tho top of the hood, which crumpled under the weight. Tho eight occupants were pinned underneath, and were unablo to make their way out as the hood had collapsed and the car was resting on the body-work. The boy George McCathie had his head caught between the side of the car and the road, and sustained a severe gash along one side of the face. Tho crash of the collision brought residents from their houses, but they were unable to extricate the passengers until the car was righted. It was then found that the bows and material of the hood had forced the passengers to the floor, and considerable difficulty was .experienced in h'elping them from the car. Driver's Fortunate Escape. The heavy plate-glass of the windscreen had been shattered by the impact, and was littered inside the car, while pieces were strewn over a considerable area of the roaa and footpath. The bodywork of tho car was damaged beyond repair, the mudguards being wrenched out of shape and the panels buckled. The headlamps were shatterd and the chassis was forced out of alignment. The car, which was removed to a garage, was of a sturdy type. The other car was not damaged extensively, one mudguard and running-board being wrenched off. It was driven away under its own power.
