At a meeting of (.lie Tauranga County Council the general rate for the current year was fixed as follows: —Ivatikati Kid iug, io pound; lo Puna Hiding) 3d;, Waimapu Riding, 2Jd; To l'ukc Riding, 3d; Mukctu Riding, 2d. The antecedent liability rate will not be levied this year, and llio bridge rate will be reduced from id to l-6d in the pound. The town clerk, Rotorna, advised that all the local bodies concerned had .signified their willingness to carry on with the arrangements at present in force regarding the distribution of heavy traffic licenso fees, and therefore the proposed conference would not be held. A motion was adopted asking the Main Highways Board to take over and maintain a portion of the Kaimai Road, approximately nine and a-quarlcr miles, from Ruahiti to the county boundary, for five years, thu council to contribute the whole of the general rate, less 10 per cent, for collection, obtained from the Kaimai special rating area. The Hon. J. G. L'obbe, for the Minister of Railways, in a letter regarding a request for a railway siding at Maketu, stated that, having regard to the limited traffic offering and the large expenditure involved, he was unable to authorise the work.

A petition asking fur improvements to tho roiul known as The Mall, at, Mount Maunganui, was deferred until next meeting.
