FATAL LIFT ACCIDENT.
MAN'S TERRIBLE DEATH.
Frightful injuries, from which he died almost immediately, were received by George Edward Bruce, 33, oi Redman Street, Campsie, when he was struck on the head by :l diWcending lift-weight at the Royal Edward Victualling Stores, Darling Island. Bruce, who was a storeinan, had been at work unpacking a number of large wooden boxes which had been piled near the elevator door on the fourth floor of the premises. It is surmised that while standing on the boxes ho stumbled, and fell against Iho lift door, his head projecting over the top of the door into the elevator shaft, as the heavy weight, which acts as a counterpoise for the lift, was descending. It struck Bruce on the back of (lie head. The Central District Ambulance took the injured man to Sydney Hospital, but oil arrival ho was found to be dead.
