STRUCK BY MOTOR-CYCLE.

That death was due to haemorrhage, of the brain, the result of being knocked down by a motor-cycle in Karangahape Load on tho evening of June 15, was the finding of the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, SM., at the inquest on Saturday morning into the death of Mrs. Catharine Parnell, of 50, Ponsonby Road. Deceased, who was aged 63, and a widow, di\d in the Auckland Hospital on June 25, 10 days after tho accident. Mr. Allan Moody appeared for the rider of tho cycle, while Mr. Sullivan represented tho relatives of deceased and Sergeant Claasen represented tho police. The rider nf the cycle, Louis Fisher Spitz, of 202, Eden Terrace, stated ho was riding his machine along Karangahape Road toward Ponsonby Road. "When [ was near the Edinburgh Street intersection 1 suddenly noticed a woman walking straight across tho road in front of rno from in front of a stationary motorcar parked at tho left-hand kerb," continued witness. "I immediately sounded a warning and applied my brakes, but before I could pull up I knocked her down. When 1 sounded a warning tho woman did not appear to hear, as she walked straight across tho road. I swerved sharply, but struck her side-on. My lamp, brakes and horn were in good order and I estimate my speed prior to tho accident at from 20 to 25 miles an hour, while at the time of the impact I had nearly stopped." Medical evidence as to the cause of death was given by Dr. .W. Gilmour and after the testimony of several eyewitnesses had been heard the coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
