A SCIENTIFIC FURNACE.

BOADLE PATENT BURNER

USE OF OIL FUEL.

Manufacturers, engineers, metalfounders and hundreds of commercial men haveshown extraordinary interest in a new heating system which is being demonstrated at tho Winter Exhibition. To many it is revelation in tho production of a constant, intense heat by means of crude oil. This patent is tho Bondlo High and Low Pressuro Burner, and it is destined to tako a foremost place in the equipment of manufacturing and metalworking concerns. Its demonstration at tho show, among tho exhibits of Messrs. A. and T. Burt, Ltd., proves that it is a most economical, labour-saving devicp, absolutely clean in its work and devoid of any smoke, fumes or dust. Its presence in the main body of the show (in Shed No. 8) is sufficient evidence on these points. Tho gases of coke and oilier coal fuels have a deteriorating effect on metals treated under great heat where that heat is maintained, but it is proved that with the uso of the Boadle Burner a mass of metal or a portion of mechanism under repair can be left in tho furnace at full heat for an indefinite time without suffering any ill effect, such as scaling or wasting away. This smokeless, odourless patent is shown working in conjunction with a specially-constructed furnace made by A. and T. Burt, Ltd., tho whole plant being so insulated that it retains a maximum heat efficiency.

The oil fuel is fed by gravitation from an overhead tank, and the oil is met by the air driven from a fan, which is operated by a l-15th h.p. motor. Complete atomisation is effected and complete combustion of the residual "fog" is ensured. A strong point in favour of the Boadle Burner is that it requires no attention when once started, and the operator can devote himsed to the work of welding, forging, or repair, or any other task. The claim that if is a "one-man" burner is amply maintained. Scientifically Efficient.

Experts agree that for simplicity, absolute safely and scientific efficiency the Boadle Burner is unsurpassed. The calorific capacity of oil is one-third greater than that of the best coal, and the Boadle Burner, in combination with the furnace designed by Messrs. A, and 1. Burt, renders loss of heat almost impossible, even with the opening and closing of the furnace door. Again, there is no cleaning of the fireplaces, tubes etc. The burner has been at work since the Winter Exhibition, was opened over a week ago, and a thorough analysis and highly scientific investigation into the operation of the plant has been conducted. This analysis has given perfect results, and it has been conclusively established that there has been no contamination of the surrounding atmosphere. Standing immediately in front of the furnace while it is working at its fullest capacity, a visitor to the exhibition is not offended by either smell or sound The cost of working is approximately sixpence an hour with the ordinary "crude" or residual oil, and it has been demonstrated that the Boadle Burner will operate efficiently with the residual oil from an automobile. Over two hundred plants with the Boadle Burner in operation have been installed in Australia and it has been proved that they are doing more work at less than half previous fuel costs. The - firm is prepared to design and fit the burner and furnace for anv industrial purpose, and it is certain that in a short time the combination will form part of the standard equipment wherever furnace heat is required. NEW DEPARTURE. ENTERING BUTTER TRADE. It is of interest to note that the wellknown and progressive firm of M-essrs. Turners and Growers, Limited, have entered the butter business as wholesale distributors. As experts in many lines of produce they have had long experience in the selection of those qualities and grades which will be acceptable and satisfactory to the public and it is gratifying to note that the same discretion will be exercised in regard to the lines of butter they are placing on the market. From a public point of view it is certain that the brands "Sungold," "Cherry" and "Willow." will be accepted with the same confidence which has characterised the public's attitude to the firm for many years.

"Sungold" is Messrs. Turners and Growers' leading line. It is an exquisite superfine creamery butter of delightful flavour and texture and is free from all preservative. Hundreds of visitors to the Winter Exhibition took the opportunity to test it and theie was no exception to the high praise bestowed upon it. "Sungold" should prove a highly popular and very reliable brand of butter. As a cheaper line (second grade), the firm have selected "Cherry" aiul "Willow" brands, both really delightful butters and not noticeably different from many first grade butters now on tho market. Judging by the quality of their lines and the very attractive manner in which they are prepared for sale, Messrs. Turners and Growers, Limited, will give satisfaction to the public, and in consequence will prove successful in their new departure. "Sungold" is a beautiful and expressive brand name and will readily convey to the public the fact that it represents tho choicest of butters. It is a name easily remembered and easily asked for. LADIES DELIGHTED. NEW SCIENTIFIC PRODUCT. Nowadays so much depends upon one's appoarance, and particularly as regards the skin, that any new development to retain that beautiful velvety freshness is of vital interest. Fresh air, of course, is of primary importance—but one must wash, and it, is in the application of cheap, poor qualities of soap where so much damage is done to the texture of tho skin. Years of scientific work havo brought forth better soaps and probably tho foremost of theso is the "Plunketto" soap—a product specially devised to play a leading part in skin preservation. This makes it ideal for ladies' personal use and for use in tho nursery.

As might bo expected, the new product lias been welcomed everywhere. "Plunketto" soap is as pood as science can malto it. It is blonded with tho purest oils and is so gentle and cleansing that it leaves tho skin refreshed, lovely and soft. Again, the men have also taken an interest in this new lino on account of its beneficial effects and the fact that it makes the. most delightful shaving soap, giving a bcaulifuly soft, lathering foam. Being also delicately perfumed it meets the most exacting requirements for a really refined toilet soap. It is truly economical because j,t lasts to the end. Tho "Plunkette" soap exhibit at tho Winter Show is oue of the prettiest and most attractive of tho stands and during the past few days it has been a continual source of interest to practically every visitor. This speeial and highly desirable product is procurable from all chemists.
