FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE.
POSSESSION OF MACHINERY. ACCUSED SENT FOR TRIAL. [BIT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday. A plea of not guilty was entered by Alfred Nicholas Thomas (Mr. W. J. King), aged 25, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day, to a chargo of obtaining aii electric generator, valued at £25, by means of false pretences. Evidence was given that on March 28, 1927, accused called at the premises of Carrick Xisbet, a Hamilton battery specialist, and saw there the generator in question. Xisbet told him the generator was for sale and that it belonged to J W. Chirney, electrician A little later accused called back at Nisbet's and said he had arranged with Chirney to buy the gen erator, and on this representation he was allowed to take it away. Chirney said in evidence that he did not know Thomas and that! he had not given him authority to tako the generator He had never been paid for the generator. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.® Bail was allowed.
