END OF HOUSE FACTORY.

DISMANTLING AT FRANKTON.

DISPOSAL OF THE PLANT.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Wednesday.

The work of dismantling the Railway Department's house factory at Frankton is nearly completed, and in a few weeks silence will reign where, during the past few years, there was a scene of much animation and noise. All the machinery of the factory has been removed and only the shell remains. Much of the machinery has been taken to the department's workshops at Otahuhu or sold to other departments, while the remainder will be stored until a suitable opportunity offers to sell it. Several buildings adjoining the house factory are being pulled down and are being removed to Otahuhu. A large quantity of tho better class timber that was stacked in tbo yards is also being sent to Otahuhu, while the balance is being sold locally. The sawmill at Frankton has not operated for 12 months. The staff at tho factory, mill and yard lias been reduced from over 80 to about a dozen.
