AS OTHERS SEE US.

Sir, —As a visitpr from tho Southern Stales of America, I wish to pay tribute to your beautiful country. I have just returned from a tour of thei northern portion of Auckland Province, and was particularly struck by the similarity of this province to my native Stale; both as to climate and the nature of the soil. I noticed, too, the splendid condition of tho countryside, considering the season of tho year. As the major portion of the wealth of my State is derived from tobacco culture,'l was amazed at the absence of crops of this nature —especially as it entails such a comparatively small outlay in the conversion from ordinary crops t<> this universal demand. I hope that your numerous readers will pardon the liberty of a foreigner in making the above remarks. I have several weeks yet to spend here, and I hope to enjoy more of your bounteous hospitality. Elmer T. Sckofield. Nashville, North Carolina, U.S.A.
