MENTAL HOSPITALS.

Sir.—Amid a great deal of apathy with regard to tlip caro of those mentally afflicted it is cheering to note that Mr. •W. D. Lysnar, M.P., is lifting' up his voice. It is not in any way a reflection upon our present Director-General of Mental Hospitals to ask for attention to Mr. Lysnar's claim that our mental hospitals should be controlled by the citizens in a similar manner to our public hospitals. Personally I am waiting for somo advantage to Auckland from tho fact that the member for Eden is now Minister of Health. When are we coing to have the supposedly or incipiently insane observed in the special ward provided in our public hospital ? Surely this can immediately be done there or in sonio other place independent of the asylum precincts. The present method is a scandal to an important city like Auckland. Mount Eden. A. S. Wilson.
