YOUNG MAN'S OFFENCE.

TWO WEEKS' IMPRISONMENT.

A pleai of guilty was entered by h young man, Stanley Herbert Hunwick, in tho Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day to a charge of assaulting a girl. Senior-Sergeant Sweeney said on June 15 several children wero playing in Sc-ddon Pari;. Accused talked with one of them, a girl of five years, and took her away on his bicycle. Subsequently he returned with her to the park. Mr. J. King, for accused, said his client was a man of good character. He had rimde no attempt to interfere with (he •■hild. The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Patterson, said he was uncertain whether to give Hunwick a period of reformative detention or to send him to prison. He wanted to impress on his mind that young children playing in public parks must not be interfered with. A sentence of 14 (lavs' imprisonment with hard labour was imposed.
