MELBOURNE. July !). Mr. W. A. Watt, who lias been u member of the Federal Houoo o r Repr-3. srnlat i\ es for Balaclava sime 1014, has resigned. He was formerly Premier of Victoria.
r. William Alexander Walt was born in Victoria in 1871, and entered the Victorian Parliament as a Nationalist in 1097 a* member for Melbourne East, lie was Postmaster-General, 1899, Stale Treasurer, 1909-12, and Premier, 1&12-13 and 1911. lie entered the Federal House in 1914, and was Minister of Works and Railways and Treasurer. He was act-ing-Prime Minister, 1918-19. while Mr. W. M. Hughes was in Europe. From 1923 to 1926 ho was Speaker of the House of Representatives.
