SURPLUS REVENUE.
NEW SOUTH WALES STATE. TAX REDUCTION PROMISED. SYDNEY, July 9. A surplus of £580,000 in the funds of the consolidated revenue is disclosed in a financial statement issued by the New South Wales Treasurer, Mr. B. S. Stevens. Tax relief is promise!. The railways showed a deficit of £1,200.000, but the receipts exceeded last year's figures by £500,000. The increased powers given to the lax Commissioner resulted in £250,000 extra being collected from persons who had been exuding the tax. A reduction in harbour dues is likely, ns the Harbour Trust accounts showed a surplus of £115.000 for the year.
