WASH-WATER FROM BREWERY.

Several mailers concerning tho discharge of sewage and other liquid into harbour waters were dealt with by tho Auckland Harbour Board yesterday.

Regarding a request by tho New Lynn Borough Council that tho board should give its decision as to tho inclusion of Glen Eden, Henderson and portions of Waitcmata County in tho sewerago area of tho borough, the board's engineer, Mr. D. Holderness, recommended that tho council should be allowed to link up tho lvclston area of tho borough with tho existing tank and outfall.

Mr. llolricrncss said tliat in. his opinion it, would bo unwise to grunt any further authorities for sewage discharge into either tlio Waitemata or Manukau Harbour until the Comprehensive report to be prepared by Mr. H. H. Watkins, engineer fo the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, was available oil his return from a special tour abroad. , The engineer's report was adopted, ana it was decided that a copy should bo Ecnti to the New Lynn Borough Council. It was agreed to accept a proposal by the Auckland City Council that the chairman should meet the chairman of the council's water supply committee in conference regarding conditions undci which wash-water from tho filter-plants at Nihotiipu and Huia might bo discharged into the Manukau Harbour. Tho council's letter staled that tlio board's proposed conditions were such as might apply to sewage, although the wash-water was entirely inoffensive and so far had left no deposit on tho beaches. Waitemata Breweries, Limited, applied for leave to dischargo wash-water into tho Tamaki River from a brewery to ba erected near tho bridge south of Otahuhu. It was explained that the water would bo that used for washing bottles and casks and would bo wholly inoffensive. Tho matter was referred to the board's special drainago committeo for a report.
