DIVIDEND ANNOUNCEMENT

SAME RATE AS LAST YEAR

The directors of tho New Zealand Insurance Company, Limited, have decided to recommend to their shareholders, at liie annual meeting on August 6, the payment of a dividend of lid a share for the half-year, making a tetal disbursement for the year of Is lOd. Tho dividend for the year is at tho same rate as last year.

Prices for cows at a clearing sale held at Palumah'oe to-day by Messrs. Alfred Buckland and Son, on behalf of Mr. R. C. Allen, ranged up to £2O 10s. Tho herd of 19 grade Jersey and Jersey-cross cows and four two-year-old heifers close to profit averaged £ll 10s. Three yearling heifers sold at £5 10s each and a team of two liorses for £G2. ,

Dalgety and Company, Limited, Hamilton, report having held a very successful sale of tho dairy herd on acpount of the estate of G. O. Bayley. at Parawera yesterday. Best young cows sold from £IG to £23 for grade Jerseys; mediuni-clasii cows, £l2 to £ls; inferior and beefy sorts, £8 to £10; be6t heifers, to £l4 10s. The pedigree Jersey bull Te Aute Taskmaster sold at G2{gna. It was purchased by Messrs. Rose Brothers. The Jersey bull Bilberry's Masterpiece was purchased by Mr. J. O'Sullivan for 24gns.

GOOD DEMAND FOR LAMBS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson mid Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the Johnsonville snlo held to-day ns follows:—There was a large yarding of both fat cattle and sheep. The bulk of the yarding comprised pftne heavy quality bullocks, which met with little competition, and sold at prices (slightly easier than last week. There were no cows, heifers or vealers yarded. The wethers were mostly extra heavy weight of good quality, prices being on a par with last week's rates. The ewes were of good quality, and met with keen competition, with prices showing a slight advance. The lambs submitted were of good quality, and met with keen competition. Prices were: Heavy show bullocks. £23 15s and i' 22 15s; extra heavy bullocks, i'lli IDs (o .£l7 12s (>d; heavy bullocks, .£ls Ids to £lO 7s fid; medium bullocks. £l4 12s fid to £ls ss; wethers, extr.i heavy, £2 '2s; heavy, 3tSs 8d; ewes, heavy, 30s 3d to 325; lambs, heavy, 27s 6d to 29s 7d.

MARKET REPORTS.

FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. Tho demand for local fruit continued In bo fair at the -Auckland City Markets yesterdny, Hothouse tomatoes sold at the increased rates of 9d to Is 6d per lb. Poorman oranges wero again very dull of sale, whilo there was only a fair demand for Island oranges, which realised 20s fo 21s a case. A number'of pears, which came out of cool store, in poor condition, sold at low rates. A frcsli shipment of bananas was landed from the Tofua from Fiji yesterday, while the Ulimaroa bronchi a fair shipment of Australian citrus fruit. The fruit will bo offered today.

The field produce market was heavily supplied with cabbage, pumpkins and swedes. Good supplies cf all root vegetables were also offerod, and met with a fair demand. Tho prices remain about tho same as last week. New potatoes sold at 2d to 4d per lb. In tho dairy produce section tho prices for the best quality hen and duck eggs in both the A and B grades wero slightly lower. Tho values are now expected to remain stable. There was a fair demand for plentiful supplies of both hen and duck eggs. Farmers' butter was again in short, sup sly, and met with a keen demand, selling at the unchanged rate of Is Id to Is per lb.
