LIMIT RIDERS PERFORM WELL

SUCCESS OF JUNIOR MEMBER

Fifteen junior enthusiasts supported their event, while the line field of 37 competed in-the first senior race of the season to he held over a course departing from the usual Mangero. block. Five riders started off limit, 10m. 155.. in the. senior race Koforo half the journey had boon completed Hall and Mackrell almost sealed the fate of the race when they simply rode away from the other limit riders. Throughout, the two wore never troubled by any of the six following handicap groups. At the turn at Pnpakura the pair hail a break of 3m. and rode the return journey with every confidence of being able to hold the advantage. Although the five i'iders off 355. made a merry pin e, and caught all the other bunches they were unable to catch Hall and Mackrell, who finished in that order, Im. 235. ahead.

A Handsome Victory. Iv Hall, lOni. 155., is only a junior member of tho Manukau Club, and rode with marked distinction to win the senior race handsomely by six lengths from his co-marker, A. \V. Mackrell. Hall proved conclusively that a scratch junior rider is quite capable oi racing with success in the senior ranks. He finished strongly and showed no evidence of having lirjd a hard ride. Hall stalled in tho 17 miles senior race on May 25 and finished third, off sm. 30s. Three juniors have competed in senior events this season, but Hall is the only one who has had his efforts attended with success. 110 is credited with two wins, ono second, one third and four fastest times in junior races this year.

The second man home, A. \V. Mackveil, 10m. 155., was among the p lacings for the first time. He rode a commendable race considering he had only previously competed in three toad events. At present lie only lacks a fast finishing sprint.

Whitten, 355.. winner of fastest time honours in 64m. 19 4-55., which time 'just betters the previous record, and third place, was the hero ot the race. His double success was well received by all who raced off the mark with him. He took the major portion of the pacing work and thoroughly deserved the reward he received for his efforts. Once ho is removed from the scratch marl:, from where he is always beaten, by either Wade or Dwight, for time honours, he can be depended upon to return the fastest time. At the unpaeed riding such as is provided by the "time trials he is the champion of the, club and won the last two such events by a fairly comfortable margin.

Reappearance of Byrnes. M. P. Byrnes, 355.. was making a welcome reappearance to road sport on Saturday. He rode impressively considering that it was his first ride this year. He finished fourth, 6in. separating him from Whitten at the finish.

Sargent, 3m. 455., scored his first victory m road competition by winning by a margin of 10s. from 11. Norris, 2m. 305., who was making his second appearance for the present season. Sargent was second, off 3m. 455., in the five and a-half miles race a fortnight ago. As the smallest junior competing he rode a game race and did the five and a-half miles in 18m. 10s., as against 15m. 345., the time registered by 0. Hansen, scr., who surprised many when he boat 0. T. \ule, scr., by half a wheel for the fastest time honours. Hansen finished lm. 9a. behind the winner. The juniors will have their usual onelap race next Saturday, while the senior event will be a "time trial" over four laps of the Man gore circuit —22 miles. This will be the second of the three '■time trials" to be run off this year. The rider who registers the best aggregate time for the three events will be acclaimed the unpaced champion of the club.
