BUSINESS IN LAST QUARTER.
GREATLY INCREASED VOLUME
The work of the Auckland Police and Magistrate's Courts was exceptionally heavy during the quarter ended June 30, the business done being even greater than in tho first three months of (lie year. Tho number of criminal charges against men was 2377 and the number against women 536, making a total of 2613. The figures for the previous quarter were 2095 and 164 respectively, a total of 2259.
There wero 83 civil and 116 criminal sittings during the quarter, compared with 78 civil and 118 criminal sittings in the previous quarter. Civil fees amounted to £4424 17s, criminal fees to £589 10s 4d and fines to £3947 18s 4d, a total of £8962 5s Bd. The respective figures for the previous (hreo months were £4035 lis, £493 Is 5d and £1351 19s lOd, a total of £SBBO 12s 3d.
A total of 4068 plaints was entered, tho total amount sued for being £113,285 16s lOd, as against 3764 plaints for a total of £73,824 Is 3d in (he previous quarter. During tho threo months' 1 475 claims for pensions were filed and of this number 287 wero granted, 71 were refused and 117 were held over for further consideration.
